ChinaPlas2017: A key to Chinese and Asian markets

May 16 to 19, China Import & Export Fair Complex in Guangzhou hosted ChinaPlas 2017 trade fair. The 31st issue of the event, organised by Adsale Exhibition Services Ltd, gathered over 3,500 companies from 34 countries and attracted more than 155,200 international visitors.

While travelling to ChinaPlas in Guangzhou professionals usually have to check whether the umbrella is at hand. Happily, this year the Tropic of Cancer was welcoming: the sun shone brightly, one did not have to deal with tropical downpours.

ChinaPlas is special in the sense of being notable for both domestic and international trade in plastic processing equipment and raw materials. Many booths displayed almost exclusive Chinese products. These were crowded with Chinese processors asking prices for local equipment and raw materials, quite affordable, we have to say. At other booths, foreign companies boasted more sophisticated high-tech products. These were not less packed, as premium innovative equipment is in demand among the advanced Chinese processors (already numerous) and international visitors.

Besides a huge wave of exhibitors coming from continental China, quite a significant number of companies represented Taiwan (132 booths), Korea, Japan, and India. In turn, Western industry specialists were led by Germany (138 booths), followed closely by Italy, Switzerland, Austria, United Kingdom and the U.S.

Renowned foreign extrusion professionals exhibiting at ChinaPlas-2017 included Brückner, Buss, Davis-Standard, Entex, KraussMaffeiBerstorff, PlasMec, Tecnomatic, or Zambello. One could note that the offer of many European suppliers of rather premium equipment for extrusion control and automation (Inoex, Kundig, Process Control, Sikora, Zumbach) was impressive. This is visibly a sign of notable prospects seen by these companies for sales in China.

One should also note the high level of representatives of the exhibiting companies. Often, at a European or a Taiwanese company booth, you could see not only sales managers, but also directors, CEOs and even owners. This is obviously a sign of China's large shares in order books of these companies. For a considerable number of foreign exhibitors, China is no less than the largest, the most important buyer of their products.

As for Chinese equipment exporters, it is noteworthy that many of them, especially large ones, are gradually entering the status of international companies. Their product quality, equipment appeal and ergonomics have been improved, while professional marketing support of sales has been established. At this year's trade fair, Chinese and Taiwanese companies "hunted" in particular for visitors from India and Russia. These countries are expected to witness an increase in demand for equipment in the coming years.

"The Chinese extrusion giant, Jin Ming has been massively asserting itself in the recent years," says Evgeny Kolerov, a representative of Polimerservice, the dealer of Jin Ming in Russia. "As one of the world leaders specialized in multi-layer film production, Jin Ming took part in K 2016 and offered a very large stand. 'Focus on Innovation' is the motto of the company at this trade fair. Our current goal is to strengthen Jin Ming's position in Russia on the eve of the expected growth."

There was a lot of fully functional, often producing, equipment at the booths. Thus, the noise of working machines joined the buzz of trade fair halls full of people.

Organizers of ChinaPlas 2017 continued to promote high-tech science-intensive solutions actively, as well as Industry 4.0 - compliant equipment. For example, a separate hall number 4.2 hosted the dedicated Smart Manufacturing Technology Zone. A special 'Intelligent Manufacturing – High-tech Materials – Green Solutions' visitor guide was issued as well.

The trade fair also offered an extensive program of conferences and seminars, mostly high-tech-oriented ones.

The organizers of ChinaPlas 2017 took good care of their guests. Special thematic guides for visitors specialising in packaging, recycling, medicine, construction, telecommunications, and automotive were printed and distributed for free.

At the trade fair, our VM Verlag GmbH publishing house entered into a mutually beneficial partnership agreement with Dalian Plastics Research Institute (China). From now on, besides the existing newsletter to Asian subscribers, an additional circulation of the Chinese-language Extrusion Asia Edition magazine is distributed free of charge among Chinese extruders at every domestic trade fair dedicated to plastics, packaging, films and pipes. Starting from June 2017, the new Chinese partner of VM Verlag publishers distributes a printed version of this magazine to extrusion professionals at its stands.

According to the exhibitors, their expectations of participation in the exhibition ChinaPlas-2017 were fully justified. So, Toni Bernards, CEO of battenfeld-cincinnati (China) noted the great interest of buyers in acquiring high-quality pipe manufacturing lines. "Potential buyers are serious. Many of them accepted the invitation to visit our plant right during the exhibition and see the entire range of our products and manufacturing conditions at our factory themselves. Even on the final day of the exhibition, the activity of meetings at our booth was high. "

Inspired by the event's success, the organisers have already opened booth reservation for the next issue, ChinaPlas2018, to be held next year on April 24 to 27.
